Short Term Accommodation & Respite (STR)

Purposeful Time Away, Delivered With Care and Intention

Short Term Accommodation and Respite (STR) provides participants with the opportunity to spend time away from their usual living arrangements while offering families and carers planned respite and support, delivered in line with NDIS guidelines.

At Tribes, time away from home is used intentionally to support independence, confidence, and skill development. Participants are supported by skilled mentors and facilitators in safe, structured environments where experiences are guided, purposeful, and tailored to individual goals.

STR supports can contribute to NDIS capacity building, independence development, and social and community participation outcomes while providing families and carers with trusted, high-quality respite.

How STR Works at Tribes

STR supports can be delivered as 1:1 or group-based programs and are shaped around participant goals, support needs and readiness.

Experiences are designed to support:

  • Daily living skills and independence

  • Social connection and shared responsibility

  • Wellbeing through land, movement, and routine

  • Confidence gained through real-world experience

Time spent in STR may include participation in mentoring, group activities, sensory farm experiences, or multi-day journey programs, depending on individual goals and support pathways.

Participants are supported through consistent routines, mentoring guidance, and structured experiences that balance comfort, engagement, and personal growth.

Who STR Is For

STR at Tribes supports:

  • Participants seeking opportunities to build independence in supported accommodation environments

  • Families and carers requiring planned respite with peace of mind

  • Support coordinators seeking STR that delivers structured, outcome-focused supports

Experiences are tailored to individual support goals and may complement existing mentoring, day programs, or Programs of Support.

Why STR at Tribes Is Different

STR at Tribes is:

  • Purpose-led rather than accommodation-led

  • Grounded in mentoring, connection, and experiential learning

  • Designed to support real independence and social confidence

  • Structured while remaining flexible to individual needs

  • Delivered in environments that prioritise safety, belonging and independence

Time away becomes an opportunity for development, reflection, and confidence building — not simply a break in routine.
