the tribes way

Where story, challenge and connection shape who people become.

Intentional Environments

Tribes is a values-led organisation that creates intentional environments where people reconnect with themselves, their community, and the natural world.

We believe wellbeing grows when people feel they belong, contribute meaningfully and engage actively with life.

Learning from the past

Across cultures and throughout history, tribal societies understood something fundamental ,people thrive when they live in connection with land, story, and one another.

These communities passed down knowledge through shared lived experience, developed practical survival skills, respected elders and knowledge holders, and created sustainable ways of living that strengthened both individuals and the wider group.

Why This Matters Today

Modern life has created incredible opportunities, but it has also contributed to rising disconnection from nature, community, and practical capability.

At Tribes, we recognise the importance of restoring these foundations in ways that are relevant, inclusive, and meaningful in today’s world.

Learning Through Experience

Growth at Tribes happens through doing, not just talking.

Participants are supported to challenge themselves safely, take responsibility and develop confidence through real-world environments. Whether through mentoring, adventure activities, survival skills, or time spent on the land, every experience is designed to foster connection, capability, and self-belief.

What This Creates

By blending timeless cultural wisdom with contemporary therapeutic practice, Tribes supports people to grow with dignity, contribute to their communities, and build meaningful, resilient lives.

Our Therapeutic Approach

At Tribes, we don’t believe wellbeing happens in a clinical box.
We believe growth happens through experience, connection, challenge, and story.

Our mentoring framework combines evidence-informed therapeutic models with immersive real-world environments across five core practice areas:

• Ecotherapy
• Survival Skills
• Life Skills
• Adventure Therapy
• Legend Therapy

Each pathway supports emotional regulation, confidence building, independence, and meaningful social connection.

Ecotherapy

Healing Through Nature

Ecotherapy uses structured, supported nature immersion to improve emotional, physical, and mental wellbeing.

Programs take place in inspiring natural environments including rainforests, waterfalls, caves, swimming holes, and scenic hiking trails. Every experience is guided by trained Eco-Mentors and carefully risk-managed to ensure safety and accessibility.

Nature-based engagement supports:

• Reduced anxiety and improved mood
• Increased social connection
• Enhanced sensory regulation
• Mental clarity and reflection
• Improved physical health

Survival Skills

Building Confidence Through Capability

Survival skills reconnect participants with practical human knowledge developed over thousands of years.

Tribes delivers structured lessons across more than 60 skill areas including fire building, water sourcing, shelter construction, navigation, first aid, environmental awareness, and resilience training.

These experiences build independence, teamwork, problem-solving skills, and self-confidence.

  • Time management

  • Budgeting and financial literacy

  • Household responsibilities and self-care

  • Problem-solving and practical repairs

  • Healthy routines and personal wellbeing

Adventure Therapy

Growth Through Challenge

Adventure experiences help participants:

  • Build resilience and confidence

  • Develop social skills

  • Improve emotional regulation

  • Overcome personal challenges

  • Create positive life memories

Activities are tailored to suit individual sensory needs, helping participants engage comfortably and successfully.

Legend Therapy

Learning Through Story

Legend Therapy uses myths, cultural storytelling, and symbolic narrative to help participants explore identity, decision-making, and life challenges.

Over the past two decades, Tribes has developed a diverse collection of cultural stories from around the world. These stories are intentionally mapped to universal human themes such as courage, responsibility, belonging, resilience, leadership, and self-control.

Rather than being taught in isolation, stories are woven into real-world experiences and land-based activities including survival skills training, group challenges, and guided reflection. This allows participants to connect story, action, and meaning in ways that feel authentic and relevant.

Throughout history, storytelling has been used to pass down wisdom, teach values, guide behaviour, and help individuals understand their role within a community. Tribes integrates this timeless practice into modern mentoring to support emotional insight, reflection, and personal growth.

Through Legend Therapy, participants are supported to:

  • Reflect on choices and consequences

  • Understand emotional and behavioural patterns

  • Explore personal strengths and identity

  • Develop perspective and decision-making skills

  • Connect lived experience with deeper meaning

Storytelling allows complex life lessons to be explored in ways that feel safe, relatable, and deeply human.

A Holistic Approach To Wellbeing

By combining these five therapeutic pathways, Tribes support growth across emotional, social, physical, and developmental wellbeing.

Our purpose is simple:

To help people discover their strengths, build confidence, and create meaningful, connected lives.
